Postcard Perfect and Private, Cambridge Beaches, Bermuda

Written on November 21, 2007

Cambridge Beaches in Bermuda from Gaile Lowe

A wedding was in progress at Cambridge Beaches the day we checked in.

Surrounded by five glorious pink sand beaches and lush tropical vegetation, there was little wonder why the bride and groom chose this luxurious resort to hold their nuptials.

Located in Sandys Parish on the western end of Bermuda, Cambridge Beaches is secluded from all other resorts, making it the perfect escape for celebrities and others in search of complete privacy. The moment we arrived, we felt as if we had stepped into another dimension. The place was postcard perfect from every vantage point.

Though we weren’t on the guest list, my partner and I watched the wedding festivities in the pub from the sidelines.

“Don’t turn around,” I whispered, “but I think Michael Douglas is ordering a drink at the bar.” It could easily have been him. He and Catherine Zeta-Jones live year-round in Warwick Parish on the south shore of Bermuda and may have been among the wedding guests. I scanned the room in search of her but didn’t see the dark-haired beauty.

Upon checking in, we were offered the choice of champagne or fruit punch by warm, friendly staff. This attention to detail followed us throughout our three-day stay at Cambridge Beaches.Cambridge Beaches in Bermuda 2

Everything we could possibly want was at our fingertips: a state-of-the-art ocean spa where we enjoyed a couple’s aromatherapy treatment; fitness center with yoga classes; a golf course five minutes away; high tea; a five-star dinner at Tamarisk, the elegant on-site restaurant; commanding views of the Kodak-blue harbor from our room; indoor heated pool with a Swim-Ex exercise pool; moped and pedal bike rentals and complimentary ferry service to Hamilton.

In season, private beach dinners for two can be arranged, as well as snorkeling trips by catamaran.

In 2006 Cambridge Beaches was named most excellent spa hotel in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Bahamas. In 2005, the resort received the Gold Award for the best place to fall in love.

And that we did. First with the resort and, again, with each other.
